Gurumaa explains that it is only due to one’s attachment with his/her body that such feelings arise. It is true that the normal dictum in the society gives permission and acceptance to heterosexual relationships only. This is what the majority prefer and homosexual relationships are considered unnatural.

It is also a norm of the society that the majority rules and has the power to pull the strings. This is why homosexual relationships are openly condemned.

An individual’s sexual preference has nothing to do with God’s love. Everyone is a unique creation of God and thus will always be His beloved. It is only the body consciousness that makes us aware of the differences between sexes in humans.

At the level of the mind and spirit one is neither male nor female. The soul is always pure, that is the basic nature of the soul. A soul is neither male nor female.

God’s love reaches the soul; it is not for the body, it is for the real YOU. So it does not matter whether one is male or female or what sexual preferences one has. If anyone loves God, God too reciprocates. God’s love is unconditional.

If one is happy within one’s own self and with the choices that one has made, then what others have to say should not matter much. Just as it is not right to be judgmental about others, one needn’t be too over critical about one’s own self too, trying to meet the standards set by others.

This body is only an outer covering, a garment worn by the soul. The inner conscious or soul is what one needs to take care of. It is essential to be at peace within.

Gurumaa believes that everyone has the right to make their own choices and live by it in full honesty. It is the soul that can connect with God, not the body.

In the guise of modernism, a lot is happening in today’s world which leaves us feeling helpless. Children today are exposed to a lot more through the medium of internet and television without having the maturity to understand the real impact of following everything that they see or hear about.

At such a time a parent has to play a very important role of a mentor, a guide, a friend who can understand their needs and yet not be critical of them.

Sex is one such issue that has griped the society like an epidemic. Today more and more adolescent teenagers are indulging in sexual relationships without being aware of the repercussions of such an act.

It has led to an increase in the number of unwed and immature mothers. Also on the rise is a sexually transmitted disease AIDS , which is life threatening. It is not something that we need to ridicule or mock at, rather we need to sympathize with those who have fallen a prey to.

We need to act in a very mature manner and spend time with children to make them understand and help them tackle the wave of their own emotions by inculcating the right moral values.

A devotee asked Anandmurti Gurumaa, how she could help her 14 year old daughter who had gotten pregnant. It comes as a shock to the parent when they find out something like this but one needs to be very patient and understanding.

The damage has already been done and now ridiculing or accusing one another will not rectify the situation. It takes great amount of courage for a parent to accept one’s own child in a situation like this.

Gurumaa advises the mother to be very patient, because 14 years is no age for a girl who is a child herself to become a mother. At 14 years a child is not even ready to cope with the changes taking place in her own body.

At such a tender age when she is not yet ready to drive a car legally, or use her discretion to cast a vote, even the law does not consider a child to be mature at that age. How then can she handle the responsibility of another child?

In such a situation if the parent and the daughter decide to go ahead with the pregnancy then a great challenge lies ahead of both. The mother whose daughter is in such a tricky situation will have to be very composed and sane to be able to lead her daughter and help her grow mentally at a greater speed.

The child will then have to leave her own childhood behind and leap ahead in time to be able to shoulder the responsibility that she has taken upon herself unintentionally and unknowingly.

Cribbing, quarreling, crying or sobbing will not help. One needs to accept the challenge that lies ahead and face it in a mature fashion. One needs to understand that bringing up a child is no small responsibility.

The responsibility of both the children now lies on the mother, her own daughter and the child that she is about to bring into the world. The need of the hour would be to be compassionate and create an educative environment in the house so that the young girl who would be a mother soon can learn how to handle herself.

An environment should be created where the child can learn that one needs to be responsible for one’s own actions and learn to make the right choices and not just indulge in senseless actions that provide momentary pleasure and result in being burdensome for the rest of the life.

Marriage is an institution, in which two persons join their hands together and decide to live a structural and disciplined life. Entering in to this institution and yet living a self disciplined life is an even bigger challenge for a person.

One of the devotees asked Anandmurti Gurumaa that he used to attend a lot of ’satsangs’ (spiritual discourses) in the past, before getting married. And his desire was to wander like a monk (bhikshu). But after his marriage he makes many efforts to continue his spiritual practice, but he fails to do so.

Now, he has lost his peace of mind as his mind is burning in jealousy, anger and other bad habits. He requests Gurumaa to guide him on how he can continue his spiritual practices and progress spiritually.

Gurumaa says that marriage is never detrimental to one’s spiritual life. The questioner needs to come out of his guilt of getting married.

When he had a chance to become a monk, he went for marriage and now he has a chance to live a balanced spiritual and married life, but he is thinking of becoming a monk and feeling guilty!

Gurumaa says that marriage is not a curse and now the questioner should accept bravely and boldly the choice that he has already made. He should not accuse his children or wife for his marriage.

And now he should give love to his wife and to those two children to whom he gave birth. And he shouldn’t be angry on himself too.

The only thing that went wrong for the questioner is that he went in to the institution of marriage with an untrained mind. He has a weak mind and is not ready to take responsibility of his own actions. Becoming a monk and wandering in the ‘Himalayas’ is rather easy, than getting married and still being mentally disassociated with the world.

To progress on the path of spirituality, Gurumaa suggests the questioner to come out of guilt first. It’s never too late. He can get that mental training now, which he should have taken before his marriage. For this, Gurumaa suggests that he needs to spend some time in the company of a Master.

One of the devotees asked Anandmurti Gurumaa that while seeking tantric mantras on internet, he saw many websites, but they all show ‘tantra’ as a sacred sex kind of practice. He wants to know about the differences between ‘tantric’ and ‘tantra’ from Gurumaa.

He also asks Gurumaa, that being a Muslim, can he chant some mantra for spiritual awakening? Or there are some bindings for him?

Gurumaa says that ‘tantra’ is not just “sacred sex”, as considered in the west. It is a wrong perception about ‘tantra’ in the western world. In fact, sex is just a very small part of tantra’ and not the whole ‘tantra’ itself; as many people think about it.

‘Tantra’ is a live worshiping measure in which body is not considered as filthy, as bag full of just bones and skin. On the contrary, the human body is considered to be as a temple of the divine.

One may call that divine as ‘Allah‘, ‘Rama’ or by any other name. It doesn’t make any difference as we may call water with hundred different names or in hundred different languages, but still water remains water.

The questioner, being a Muslim, shouldn’t disallow himself from practicing ‘tantra’. But, first and foremost, one really needs to understand what these practices are actually all about. Therefore, the questioner needs to be with someone who can guide him about it.

Gurumaa suggests the questioner to do the chanting of ‘Om’ mantra in the meanwhile. And also explains that ‘OM’ is something which has nothing to do to with the Hindu religion. Actually it is the three syllables, ‘Aa’, ‘O’, ‘Ma’, and the combination of these three syllables is the word ‘OM’.

One of the devotees asked Anandmurti Gurumaa, “Is it right to take important decision of my life based on my own perception, experience and feeling. The decision about marriage, I have opted to be a celibate out of my own choice based on my feelings about sex, marriage and spirituality.”

“But I don’t know how much I can rely upon what I think and feel. People around me say its not easy to be celibate; you are curbing your natural urges. But I don’t know if I feel this urge or not. Since I am not an enlightened one, I might be missing out some important aspects to the above issue. How should I go about it?”

Gurumaa explicates that in a confused state of mind, as that of the questioner’s, one cannot really take decision regarding, to be celibate or not, and to go for marriage or not.

If someone really wishes to explore higher consciousness in life, then marriage can’t really be an obstruction or detrimental to one’s spiritual growth.

But, marriage definitely comes with its own set of challenges. Because in the present, one has no clue about which direction one’s mind would go, what it would think. And the same condition would be of one’s spouse. That means after marriage, along with one’s own mind; one has to handle the mind of the other person too. So in a way it would be a bigger problem.

In other way, marriage has its own benefits too. As one will not be curbing one’s urges about sex.

The fact is that celibacy does not come as a discipline, but it has to come from the maturity of one’s life. In the past too, many great ‘Rishis’ (sages) and ‘Sadhus’ (spiritual seekers) got married and it never became an obstruction in their spiritual evolution.

Marriage or no-marriage has nothing to do with a person’s spiritual development. So, one should not make any decision on the base of just the mind’s fancy or about what the people say to you. This has to come from one’s own inner heart. One should listen to one’s own heart to make the decision.

A 24 years old youngster asked Anandmurti Gurumaa that his mind is all the time thinking about sex and other nonsense things. He always tries to control such kind of bad thinking of the mind, but fails to do so.

What can he do to divert his mind from sex towards other positive things? He requests Gurumaa to guide him. In this video, the enlightened master – Anandmurti Gurumaa explains the whole process of sex and the ways to surpass the sexual urges.

Gurumaa says that sex is not a taboo. It is not something that needs to be condemned for. But rather, one needs to understand what sex and sexual urges are all about. And, it is only when we understand it; that we can learn the ways to surpass these urges of the mind.

She further adds that sex is not bad, but thinking about sex is bad. If a person day and night, all the time keeps on thinking about sex by visualizing or dreaming about it all the time, then it is nothing more than exhausting one’s own energy.

For example, when we feel thirsty, we drink water and when we feel hungry, we eat food. But we do not keep eating the food or drinking the water for the whole day. And if one does so, then he/she will definitely end up in a hospital.

One need not be revolting with the thoughts all the time. Rather, we should accept the fact, that sex is a natural phenomenon of the body; just like eating and drinking is a system of body given by nature.

If one observes it, one would find that these thoughts were not present in the head, say at the age of six, seven or eight. Perhaps, it is after entering into the teenage, such thoughts arise in the mind. This is due to the hormonal changes in the body that take place at the age of around 10 to 12 years.

Gurumaa further elucidates that sex is just a chemical process of the brain. It is a surprising fact that if certain kind of chemicals are injected in a person’s body, then that person would never feel excited, even if he sees a naked women!

Moreover, it is not our genitals, but our brain which is the biggest sex organ in our body! So, if someone learns to manage the brain, then one can easily surpass these sexual urges of the brain.

For achieving a balanced hormonal secretion and better control over the body, Gurumaa has suggested practicing Surya Namaskar yoga asana and half an hour of Pranayam everyday. There are many other effective Pranayam techniques suggested by Gurumaa, like Bhastrika Pranayam and kapalbhati.

The aim of Bhastrika pranayam is to keep the inhalation cycle equal to exhalation cycle and this process comprises of breathing deep inwards and long exhalation outwards with equal time intervals.

Whereas, in Kapalbhati pranayam the main stress is upon short and strong forceful exhalations; and the inhalation just happens naturally.

One of the devotees asked Anandmurti Gurumaa that his wife had an extra marital affair which lasted for 4 months after they got married.

He says, “I know she is not a kind of lady who would do this in her dreams. I am unable to forgive this and I scolded her many times and I hit her too. I am sorry about that. She got pregnant and I was not sure about the father of the baby, though she said it is mine. Hence, I forced her to abort it.”

Now his wife is not with him. He is feeling guilty of his act and is burning in fire of repentance or ‘prayashchit’. Now, again he wants to live happily with her and asks Gurumaa about what should he do to come out of the sinking feeling and to forgive his wife and himself?

Gurumaa says that whatever happened with the questioner was a very unfortunate thing. But there is no fun in now crying on the spilled milk and about all those past events which have happened.

It is a bad thing happened, that his wife fell into an extra marital affair. But he too shouldn’t have aborted the child, as a child is a gift of God.

And, it is very difficult for the male personalities to accept such a child, who they know is not of their own. This is because the males (especially Indian) are so gloating with their manly-hood and their minds are so immature.

The questioner and his wife both couldn’t work out their relationship and she (questioner’s wife) had to find consolation or a good time with someone else.

To forgive his wife, now he needs to put himself in place of his wife. He has to think that had he done the same mistake and was kicked out of the house like his wife, what would he feel like!

Married life always comes with some challenges and these flings or extra marital affairs are something which are like a ‘Rahu’ (evil shadow). And one never knows why a person falters and gets into extra marital relationships.

To live happily with his wife again, he needs to make a positive effort in this direction. He can do this by having a solid communication with his wife. He should never feel guilty that it was something short of him, that she had to look outside of her marriage.

He shouldn’t judge his wife. Nobody knows why a person commits a certain action. As the questioner says that he is burning in the fire of repentance or ‘prayashchit’, he shouldn’t burn himself with the guilt.

He should make a fresh start. He can do this by sitting with his wife and talking to her.

Gurumaa also suggests the questioner that he should never hurt his wife by hitting her. He should try and change himself. His wife needs his sympathy and love and he too needs her love and attention. So, they better should give love and respect to one another.

One of the seekers asked Anandmurti Gurumaa, “Dear Gurumaa Greetings to you. I understand that life begins at conception, but does this mean that a soul enters the mother’s womb at the same time i.e. during conception or does it enter sometime later during pregnancy?”

Gurumaa clarified her that firstly, one thing is to be understood, i.e the soul does not enter into a body. If you are using the word soul as an alternate to the Hindi word ‘atama’; then, this is a wrong choice of word. The right choice of the word would be the individual soul or the ‘jivatama’, and not the atama (universal soul).

Secondly, the timing of the ‘individual soul’ to enter into the womb is not during the conception or after the conception has happened. Actually, the mind of the individual soul is already present, being pushed and pulled towards that right combination of its birth, as per the karmic accounts to be settled.

And then the mind begins to open up itself, its samskaras, impressions and karmic account; and from there henceforth the body gets created!

Conception is followed by the presence of the individual soul right there. Right at that moment when that man and woman are having the intercourse. So, it is not during and it is not after the conception.

This is something which is very mysterious and comes from the sources of those great evolved individuals (sages) who had ability to see this phenomenon happening. And it’s not a small thing! It’s among the most complicated and mysterious phenomenons; which happen to be possible to some individuals who could have the first hand information about this whole process.

A youngster of age 23 asked Anandmurti Gurumaa that he was getting too much attracted towards females and felt a lack of control on his body and feelings, so what should he do about this situation and how he could overcome it?

In reply to his question, Anandmurti Gurumaa says that it is quite normal at this age to have attraction towards the opposite sex. At this age, hormones are secreted in the body of males from the hypothalamus and pineal gland, which heighten the attraction towards the opposite sex – many times making them almost out of control!

So, it is nothing to worry about as it’s quite a normal phenomenon at this age. To have a better control over the body and emotions, Gurumaa suggests practicing yogic asanas such as “Surya Namaskar” up to 20 times and doing pranayam regularly for up to 1 hour everyday.

The regular practice of yoga and pranayam would help to regulate the hormonal balance in the body and help in better control over the sexual urges and emotions.

In addition to that Gurumaa says that one should keep oneself busy in his studies, vocation or any creative activity. This would help to channelize one’s energy in a positive direction and sexual attraction towards the opposite sex would not overpower one’s mind.

Anandmurti Gurumaa says that men should regard females as a complete personality, rather than just a “sexual object”. They should value the qualities, emotions, intelligence and the grace of women; and not just limit them on how they look and their physical beauty. A woman is much more than just her physical beauty.

She adds that true love nurtures the soul and fulfills all sexual longings that one has. So, he should look for an ideal partner; a girl that he respects and loves, and get settled with her. As true love comes in his life, all his attraction towards other females would gradually diminish away.
