Many people experience the problem of constantly having thoughts during meditation. Due to this problem many of us get frustrated and annoyed at ourselves. In this video, Anandmurti Gurumaa explains what we should do when this problem occurs during meditation.

As Gurumaa says in this video, it is essential that we do not get attached, or caught up in our thoughts. In fact she says consistent meditation will actually decrease our thought process. The practice of mediation purifies our heart and our mind.

Gradually, as you follow the path of meditation your thoughts start to decrease and ultimately you reach a point where the mind becomes free from all thoughts and negativities.

Even though we are all pure consciousness, the activity of the mind conceals our true nature. Through the process of meditation we still our mind and become free from thoughts.

Indian philosophy says that there are impressions of countless number of lifetimes that are stored within you. All the negativity, fear, anger and emotions that you experience are deeply embedded within us. The process of meditation is so powerful that it burns these impressions, and uproots them out of you. As Gurumaa says, meditation acts like a broom and sweeps the clutter out of our mind.

The mind is nothing but pure consciousness, and can never be destroyed. Due to maya, we see ourselves separate from God. Once we erase our notion of duality and see ourselves as one with God, then this same mind expands and merges with our true Self.

Therefore Gurumaa says instead of associating ourselves with either good or bad thoughts, we need to remain unbiased. She says we should just watch and constantly witness our own thoughts. We are not the thoughts, but we are the knower and perceiver of these thoughts.

Ultimately the goal of our sadhana is to reach the highest state of meditation. The highest state of meditation occurs when the mind merges with our pure consciousness, or Self. This advanced state of samadhi is known as nirvikalpa samadhi, which is the highest state of meditative union with God that one can experience. This state is beyond attribute, thoughts and images and is also known as self realization.

Who performs evil actions? What is the reason behind the immorality prevailing in the world? Is it God or someone else? In this video Anandmurti Gurumaa explains who is responsible for this and who labels our actions as either good or evil.

Gurumaa says that it is your own mind that is responsible. Our minds create all of the wrong-doings that are going on in this world. It is due to the fact that we are unaware of who we really are, and wrongly identify ourselves with our egos.

There are two types of egos, the pure and impure ego. The pure ego identifies itself with God, and realizes that God lies within you. For example, when we say Aham Brahmasmi , we are saying we are Brahman, or God.

On the other hand, the impure ego identifies itself with the body, mind and intellect and does not realize the nature of its true Self. It is this impure ego that makes you think this body is the real Self, and allows you to think you are experiencing pain, pleasure, and are the doer of either good or bad actions.

It is the ego that creates a veil within us and does not allow us to see who we really are. Once the realization of the pure, egoless and blissful Self occurs, we automatically see this same state in others. Due to this realization there is no room for hate and evil.

Everything in this world is perceived as one’s own Self, which is the reason we are unable to hate or hold grudges against anyone. In order to experience our true nature we have to purify our mind and heart with practices such as mantra japa, meditation and chanting. For more information visit www.Gurumaa.com, where you will be able to find guided CD’s for practicing these techniques.

Why aren’t we happy or satisfied? Why we feel ourselves mal-adjusted? What is the source of real happiness and inner satisfaction? Discover the answers in this Gurumaa video.

When the above question was put up to Anandmurti Gurumaa, she says that to stay happy or satisfied, first of all you need to know – Who is happy, sad, satisfied or dissatisfied? Is it you? No, definitely not. It is your mind!

Your mind creates all the mess just because of ignorance. In a state of ignorance you think that things will make you feel good. So, to get happiness and satisfaction you desire things.

But you are unaware of this fact, that every desire of yours whether fulfilled or not, will bring a trail of emotions with it- sadness, pleasure, anxiety, anger, lust. A mind that experiences these emotions in their full range can never be at peace.

Lord Buddha knew this – that happiness is within us and to experience it we have to be with our true self. That’s why he renounced all the good things he had!

About nature of our mind, Kabir said- “What kind of fish is this – it longs for water even when it stays in water”. When one desire of our mind gets fulfilled, it starts hankering over other things. It is as though desire knows no end, no fulfillment. Desires cannot be eradicated by fulfilling them.

You have to kill the source, the ignorance, and only then satisfaction and ultimate peace can be experienced. You need awareness and wisdom. You should be aware of every thought and live accordingly.

Every moment, when the mind becomes still, we experience happiness within. If you calm down your breathing, your mind will become still and you will find happiness and satisfaction within.

To calm down your breathing, you need to learn Pranayam and yogic breathing techniques. Click here to know more about them.

To feel good, satisfied and happy you need to learn to live life. You need to play around like a child, sing aloud, dance with music and be with nature. Gurumaa has given the key to live a blissful life. Click here to learn more about how you can live blissfully.

Meditation will also help you dive deeper and deeper within you to find the source of true happiness. To learn the techniques of Meditation and know about them click here.

How to control the urge for sex? How to be free from the constant thoughts of sex coming in the mind? How to live blissfully without the bondages of lust, passion, greed and anger? Find out the answers in this Gurumaa video.

A devotee asked this question to Anandmurti Gurumaa -Whenever I face some problem I go for sex. But soon I feel guilty as it comes to my mind that I have acted in a wrong way and the relief that i get from sex is for a very short period. How should I control my urge for sex?

Gurumaa says that sex can be controlled only by dealing with the problems and not by running away from the problems. This can be done by settling down the thought process of one’s mind. One needs to learn to live life with wisdom.

The sense of relaxation or relief that one feels after sex is for a very short period and therefore there is no point going for it just for solving a problem. One should face the problem bravely and should have all the courage to solve it, only then life can be lived with wisdom.

So how does one attain such wisdom? In order to live the life with wisdom one needs to understand the way to control the urge for sex and direct it towards a healthy direction.

Gurumaa says that the urge for sex arises due to secretion of hormones from our glands that are being run by Hypothalamus and pineal. We should not consider it as a problem and should keep ourselves busy in something wonderful, creative and productive. This would channelize our energy in a positive direction.

For related videos and detailed discourses regarding how to control urge for sex click here.

For achieving a balanced hormonal secretion and better control over the body, Gurumaa has suggested practicing Surya Namaskar yogasana and half an hour of Pranayam everyday.

There are many other effective Pranayam techniques suggested by Gurumaa like Bhastrika Pranayam and kapalbhati.

The aim of Bhastrika pranayam is to keep the inhalation cycle equal to exhalation cycle and this process comprises of breathing deep inwards and long exhalation outwards with equal time intervals.

Whereas, in Kapalbhati pranayam the main stress is upon short and strong forceful exhalations and inhalation just happens naturally.

Gurumaa has explained thoroughly these two techniques, to learn how these should actually be done, click here.

By regularly following, these guidelines one can divert the thoughts of his mind towards positivity.

Additional Resources

1) Directing Mind from Constant Thoughts of Sex towards Positivity

How can we divert a mind that always thinks about sex and other nonsense things towards positivity? Gurumaa says that sex is not bad, but always thinking about sex is bad.

For example, we eat food when we are hungry and similarly we drink water only as and when we feel thirsty, but we don’t keep doing it the whole day.

Gurumaa says that the urge for sex is nothing more than a chemical process of a brain and also explains the ways to manage one’s brain. To know more on what Gurumaa says about how to manage our brain, click
here.

2) Going Beyond The Mind

One also needs to go beyond his mind to actually understand its complexities. For detailed discourses on how one can go beyond his mind, click here.

3) Understanding Mind and Sex

To go beyond the bondage of sex, one needs to understand the complex relationship between mind and sex first.

Gurumaa has extensively expounded about Evolutionary stages, Emotions, Relationships, Marriage and Sex in the special issue “Mind and Sex” that helps to know and understand more about complexities of The Mind and its relationship with Sex.

Is it possible to see God in person? In what form does God exist and how to know God? These questions arise in our minds many times. Discover the answers in this Gurumaa video.

When the above questions were put up to Anandmurti Gurumaa, she says that it is not possible to see or meet God in person. The reason is that God’s presence is intangible; just like the fragrance of a flower or the sound arising out of any object. The presence of God can be felt if one develops his/her consciousness to higher levels.

Many people claim that they have seen deities such as Ram, Jesus or Mohammad. Regarding this, Gurumaa says that these are just the creation of their mind and has nothing to do with meeting or knowing God.

The reason is the a Hindu always sees a Hindu God (deity), a Muslim always sees God speaking in Arabic while a Christian sees God speaking English or some language that he is familiar to. A Hindu never sees Jesus or a Christian never comes across Lord Shiva or Krishna. This shows that it is just a creation of their mind.

Gurumaa also quotes the Bhagwad Geeta, where Lord Krishna says that God is formless and all forms belong to him. In other words, God is not limited to being a single sound or a single form, that one could meet him in person.

How to come out of painful memories and live our life with joy? We often cling to our past and cannot let go of it. In fact, many people also lose their balance of mind and suffer from depression due to this. Discover the answer to regain the carefree and joyous state of mind in this Gurumaa video.

Are you keeping the ghosts of your past alive? If yes, then it’s high time to let go. In this video, Anandmurti Gurumaa sets us on the path to help us come out of our miseries, pains and blockages of the past.

She says that the past is gone and it is futile to cling to it. One can easily live a life filled with joy and happiness. Gurumaa suggests a few meditation techniques and listening to her discourses to overcome the painful memories of the past.

Yoga Nidra and Sakriya dhyan (Dynamic Meditation) are two excellent meditation techniques suggested by Gurumaa, which can help us overcome our problems of the past which haunt our minds.

Sakriya Dhyan is a powerful blend of pranayamas such as kapalbhati, ujjayi and bhastrika which help us in emptying our minds of all the clutter. It makes us more aware and helps us to live in the present.

On the other hand, Yoga Nidra helps us to cut off our ties with the past samskaras. It is a guided meditation technique that removes all the negativities and makes us full of positivity. During the practice of yoga nidra, our mind moves between consciousness, sub consciousness and super consciousness while we follow the instructions in the guided meditation CD.

Can one know about his past life and is there a practical way of doing so? This was the question put up to Anandmurti Gurumaa by one of the disciples. Find the answer to this question in this video.

Gurumaa replies to the question by putting back a question as to why does one need to know about the past lives and what he/she did in that past life? Knowing all such details does not give any benefits in this current life.

Besides that, she brings up the point that although forms of the body change in each incarnation (rebirth), the mind remains that same. So, a stupid mind remains a stupid mind, and a brilliant mind remains a brilliant mind.

So, rather than spending one’s time and energy on looking back into the past lives and finding out what one did, why one did some particular acts and what one was, it is better to gain the understanding how to live this moment totally and joyfully. This would be the key to permanent happiness.

Isn’t it wonderful to be blessed with the intuitive knowledge? Isn’t it superb to be endowed with the capacity to listen to your inner guiding voice? In the words filled with wisdom and prudence by Anandmurti Gurumaa, this video opens up the door to unleash the hidden potentials residing in your own self.

The function of our mind is to keep on babbling. This continuous cacophony of thoughts in mind disrupts the growth of intuition. The more placid the left and right hemispheres of our brain are, the chances of our mind to act as a recipient of this intuitive knowledge also increase. So it is very essential to bring the equipoise in mind.

For this it is essential to regulate the body systems first. To tame the mind it is indispensable to balance the body energies. Here comes the importance of ‘breathing techniques’, which includes:

- Breathing from which nostril should be active while indulging in a particular activity?
- What is the correct way of breathing?

This knowledge lays down the foundation for enhancing the intuitive abilities. Left nostril breathing affects parasympathetic systems, while our right nostril breathing affects sympathetic systems.

Even medical science corroborates this theory that when left nostril breathing is prominent, our brain’s right hemisphere gets activated which enhances our creativity and cognitive abilities and improves our decision making power. On the other hand, when our right nostril breathing is prominent, it contributes to the effective functioning of the body mechanisms like digestion, circulatory etc. and boosts our energy, fills our body with great zest which further helps in performing various motor activities with perfection.

Thus while eating right nostril breathing should take place to prevent flatulence, dyspepsia or any other related digestive problem. While contemplation, left nostril breathing should be active to achieve higher levels of spirituality. To conclude, this basic knowledge of breath gives you an insight of intuitive knowledge.

Have you ever faced suicidal tendencies? Has the thought of committing suicide ever come up in your mind too? Does life feel too difficult, miserable and burdensome to live? If yes, then check out this video where Gurumaa replies to a question pertaining to a girl who thinks that life is so difficult for her that committing suicide would be her last resort!

So, what are emotions basically? Why do we get so stirred up in them? Emotions are the stirred up mental state aroused by some external stimuli and always act while accompanied by bodily and mental excitement.

Anandmurti Gurumaa is emphatically saying that emotional control and balance are essential as they are the mark of a spiritual and cultured person. Howsoever adverse the circumstances might be, one should not arouse suicidal instincts and pessimistic attitude in him/her.

It is indispensable to manifest emotional maturity for spiritual evolvement. Emotional maturity does not mean absence of emotions and feelings in life, but rather these should be experienced in socialized ways.

Pain and pleasure are the two sides of the same coin. They form an essential part of our life. It would be foolish to drown in the whirlpool of sorrows. In such times one may become depressive and resort to suicide. But such kind of escapism is nothing but cowardice!

Similarly it would not be intelligent to groove madly in merriment. So one should follow a middle path of remaining stable and balanced within, in both favorableness and adversities.

And these attributes can be inculcated only in the companionship of a mystic, a Sadguru. One should learn to train his mind in the benign presence of a Sadguru so that he/she can evolve spiritually and side by side complete his worldly obligations with sincerity.
